Parenting a teen can feel a bit like walking a tight rope. One minute there is a strong connection and the next there is grunting or answering back. This is a parent support group for parents of young people aged 9 and up.
Emotions in young people can be quite overwhelming and there is not much support out there for the parents.
Being able to look after yourself and find some support is vital for looking after your young person effectively. Raising a teen is not something you need to do alone and this is your chance to meet other people and find some support.
I am a bexley resident and a qualified counsellor. I have worked with parents and families for many years and my aim through running this group is to provide much needed support at a time when things can be a bit tough.
It can feel a bit like you must be doing something wrong when your teen starts changing, and they may reject your support. This group will provide support when you feel most isolated.
This group is all about helping parents to get support and meet other parents when it feels like no one else understands what is happening in your world. This is a safe non judgmental space to come and meet like minded people
This might be for you if your young person is experiencing a lot of anxiety which is limiting your life and theirs.
Perhaps they have some challenging, even violent behaviour which you would like some advice and guidance on.
Maybe they are self harming
Perhaps you would like to improve your relationship with your young person.
There will be sessions on the following topics, but these will vary over time:
the teen brain and how it is developing and changing
the emotional needs
how to feel more confident as a parent
self care
having challenging conversations
managing tricky behaviour.
navigating friendships.
there will be guest speakers as well
